Postdoctorate Fellow within the Sports Injury Prevention Research Centre at the University of Calgary

2022 - present

Currently, I am a postdoctoral scholar in the Faculty of Kinesiology at UCalgary. I am part of the Sports Injury Prevention Research Centre; SHRed Concussions research program (supervision: C Emery) and We-TRAC/wearable technology program (supervision: R Ferber). I am using Prevent Biometrics mouthguard to assess concussion risk and injury in youth athletes.

Upcoming 2023 conferences:

- Canadian Concussion Network in Calgary, AB (June 15-16)

- International Society of Biomechanics in Sport in Milwaukee, WI (July 12-16)

Research Assistant in Auburn University's Sports Medicine and Movement Laboratory

08/2017 - 12/2020

During my time at Auburn University, I assisted with research in the School of Kinesiology Sports Medicine and Movement Laboratory. The primary focus of our research included throwing biomechanics and injury prevention. This was another perfect collaboration of my two favorite areas of focus. I was able to use research and exercise science and apply it directly to the softball and baseball athletes that participated in our lab's research. Our lab predominantly used an electromagnetic system (trakSTAR Ascension Technologies Corp.) to capture kinematic data. The flock of birds system was synced with a Bertec force plate and data were analyzed using The MotionMonitor. Duties in the lab included assisting with the collection, processing, and analyzing of data. Through the use of this space, equipment, and the brilliant minds within Auburn's School of Kinesiology, our lab was been able to excel in presenting a producing and presenting literature related to throwing sports and injury. Canadian Sport Institute Internship

Summer 2017

In completion of my Exercise Science graduate degree from Liberty University, I was a practicum student at the Canadian Sport Institute in Calgary, AB, Canada. At CSI Calgary I was able to witness the combination of my two favorite things: science and sport. I worked alongside the biomechanist using technology to improve the sport products of the future, as well as the athletes of the future. I was able to use Vicon motion capture, Bertec force plates, an Optogait system, accelerometers, and Pedar pressure insoles for data collection. I assisted in the development of a literature review summarizing the current literature related to perception and comfort in sport footwear; validated an OptoGait system by comparing kinematic measures with Dartfish video analysis; assisted in the development of a study involving the measurement of "comfort" in different shoe styles, and used Vicon video analysis and Pedar pressure system to help develop methods for a future study at CSI. It was especially interesting to work alongside the athletes in their training setting and use immediate biomechanics feedback to analyze and theorize improvements in their kinematics to enhance performance. In completion of my undergraduate degree in exercise science, I completed a summer internship at a clinic in Saskatoon, SK, Canada. This clinic is well-known throughout Canada for training western Canadian elite athletes. I was able to put my exercise prescription design skills into practice as I trained individuals of all different backgrounds. I had the opportunity to work with elite gymnasts, mogul skiers, figure skaters, curlers, and professional soccer players. I was also able to work alongside Saskatoon's baseball academy completing fitness testing and training. One other part of my duties included writing a physical literacy plan for the elementary schools in the territory of Yukon.
